Substrates and Coating
Multinational companies are already seeing the potential in the Flexible Electronics Substrate Facility located at the Wilton Centre in North East England. The waiting list for access to the Class 1000 Clean Room and Reel-to-Reel Vacuum Coater is growing rapidly, with recent developments focused on photovoltaic cells (solar panels), thin film transistor displays (TFT screens), electronic sensors, and solid-state lighting.
Plastic Electronics is a rapidly growing field with projected world sales of £30 billion by 2015, using lower cost, more sustainable technology to manufacture tomorrow’s electronic equipment. Prototype products have already demonstrated the potential for new designs that can only be realised on flexible substrates.
De-risking industrial research and development
and speeding up your time to market
PETeC aims is to de-risk industrial research and development, by providing access to expertise and state of the art equipment, and to speed up the route from an innovative idea to a marketable product. This facility is already having a major impact on the rate of development of flexible electronics, which is an industry with billions of pounds worth of potential that PETeC is helping the North East to unlock.
PETeC is working to evolve the plastic electronics industry cluster in the North East region and lead the race for innovation which will bring with it huge dividends not only for the region, but also for the whole of the UK in the context of the wider global market.
