At PETeC we believe that if the UK is to meet its targets of 60% reduction in carbon emissions by 2020 UK, this can only be realised through increasing the availability of reliable low cost Organic Photovoltaic Cells (OPVs). OPVs offer the strongest investment opportunity for governments in the pursuit of a reduced carbon output strategy whilst meeting increasing energy demands from society.
Of the range of alternative renewable energy sources available to us going forward, the potential for power output from Solar Energy outstrips the cumulative power output from all other renewable power sources put together; ocean currents, tides, geothermal, stream runoff, global fossil fuel consumption and wind.
Endless possibilities with R2R
At PETeC we are pursuing challenging concepts of fabricating large area, roll-to-roll (R2R) photovoltaic cells (PV) on thin, lightweight plastic substrates using ambient processing technologies at a sufficiently low price point and with a sufficiently high performance factor to allow for a step change in the critical mass of the installed base of OPV units to be achieved.
