Displays

PETeC will enable the development of novel active matrix backplanes, which may be applied to a variety of display driving requirements. Latest organic and selected thin film inorganic materials will be used. Patterning processes will be specially tailored to take advantage of these materials’ high performance and unique ability to be processed in continuous manner. It is anticipated that the technology could be applied to create Electronic Paper, flexible LCD, and potentially even active matrix OLED displays.

State-of-the-art equipment for deposition and patterning materials

Device fabrication will initially use rigid substrates for the displays and in later stages of development will switch to flexible ones, which have the potential to be handled in a roll-to-roll process. Although at PETeC there will be no development of the display media itself (electrophoretic inks, liquid crystals or light emitting materials), equipment sets and technological solutions will be developed to solve some the integration challenges facing the use of thin film and organic TFTs in this application.

In addition to state-of-the-art equipment for deposition and patterning materials, PETeC employs highly skilled scientists with a variety of skills in key areas of organic materials and display fabrication. Together this powerful combination can be used to drive forward the technology of flexible electronics.
