The PETEC Team
Dr David Bird,
Electronic Materials Printing Scientist

Dr David Bird’s expertise is in surface analysis, primarily with AFM, but also with white-light interferometry, SEM and TEM. He is responsible for the formulation of inks for inkjet printing at PETEC.
David has additional expertise in formulating the rheology of coatings, taking formulations from lab-scale to pilot, full scale production, colour physics, powder handling, and mathematical modelling of coatings.
Prior to joining PETEC, David spent five years as Research Engineer for DuPont Teijin Films (DTF) while completing a work-based PhD and EngD. At DFT he ran the atomic force microscopy facility at its research headquarters in Wilton, Middlesbrough.
Industry experience includes: planarising and hard coats for films for flexible electronics and displays; barrier coatings; ID cards and related security technologies; print registration and film stability; conductive coatings; and surface design for friction and handling optimisation.
David has four publications in the area of flexible electronics.
